Okay, there's this really good shelter near us that is fabulous for dogs and cats. But they're expanding their main shelter and have started taking in and adopting out small animals, including hamsters. They don't know much about hamsters as seen by me when we last visited about 6 or 7 months ago and saw hamsters in small cages.

Today while browsing through PetFinder, I find they have several hamsters listed. I looked at one of the postings of baby hamsters with a pic of a mother Syrian with some young babies and am shocked to see their age listed as TWO WEEKS! There was nothing there saying if they will be available at 5 weeks or available now.

I rushed off to my email to plead with them not to sell the babies until at least 5 weeks of age and to explain hamster care to them. I'm looking over the email now to see if anything needs to be added.

Sent it out! Hopefully they will read it and take my advice. I just hope those poor babies are still with their mom... :(

Is it a RSPCA shelter?

They are not a RSPCA shelter as they are in the US and even then they are not SPCA either. They are just a huge nonprofit shelter.

And I did get an email back, they were thankful that I sent them the info and told me they weren't up for adoption yet, they had just put the post up to say they have babies and to get interest going.

Well done LokiWolf - they will probably appreciate all the help and advise you can give them on hamsters. Such organisations are well meaning, but due to limited resources, they are unable to train all staff in different animal species. Offering your services to come and visit on a regular basis to offer some advice on hamster welfare, I assume, will be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work :)
