Help! I am the loving spoiler of Mo (Dwarf) and Able (Syrian). They have huge homes (40 gallon terrariums. Not living together) and I made sure that they have plenty to do. Since they both seem to love tunneling, I’ve put a lot of substrate into their homes. I think my decision to do that may have caused a bit of a problem… Neither of them comes out of their burrows during my waking hours anymore.
Mo was starting to eat broccoli off my hand while I gently gave him a pet or two. Since I made the substrate deeper for him to tunnel to his heart’s content, I never see him!
Able… well, I just brought Able home so I hadn’t had a chance to work with him yet. But he has now started to come out even later in the evening than he was before.
The only reason I know they’re doing ok is because their food is gone, their water is drank up and I surprised the lil bums running on their wheels when I’ve gotten up to use the restroom in the middle of the night. As soon as I turned the light on they both dove for cover.
I’ve not been mean or neglectful. I haven’t pushed them or pestered them so I’m really confused on why they may be avoiding me. Are they just night hammies? Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a way I can adjust their sleep schedule without causing trauma or bad ham feelings?
Thank you for any advice or observations you can give!
