My robo, Kousagi, does the same thing with her cage. She'll pick a spot on the cage floor and claw away at it for minutes on end, as if she is trying to tunnel her way to freedom or something. I hesitate to take her out as she is so little and so fast and can get lost so very easily. In fact, I almost lost her when she ran out of her cage whilst I was in the middle of cleaning it and went on an exploration of my bedroom floor.

I am not sure if this is just the way robos are or not.

Do you have good, deep substrate in your cage for your hamster to dig in? Digging is something that hamsters love to do & it is a natural behaviour. Also, what size is your cage? Our hamsters rearrange their bedding to suit themselves & move it around, again completely normal :).
