Hmmm...what is he?

I know that Darwin is a Syrian hamster...a small one at that (although he's only 4 months old), but can anyone tell me what his coloring is considered? It's kind of funny, and I don't have a pic showing it, but his little bum & tail are an entirely different tan color than the rest of him :grin:

Sable banded to me,
He has eye rings in cream, a cream base coat, and the bum going a gingery brown is common in sables, normally happens between 4-8 months :)

Teddy is sable-banded but you can see in this photo that he was already going quite ginger on his bottom & that was a few months back, now he is even more ginger on the darker patches!
He is a magic colour-change hamster I think :)

That is EXACTLY what I was talking about with Darwin's rump! He does look a lot like your Teddy :). How old is Teddy?

When you blow up his fur does it have cream coloured roots? If it does he is a sable banded. If the roots are dark grey or black he is an Umbrous Golden banded :) He is very cute :)

We were told Teddy was 'about 5 months old' when we got him in August from an ad from a lady who couldn't take him to her new house due to a no pets rule but she seemed a bit vague on his age really ! That would make him about 9 months old now if that was accurate. He has definitely continued to change colour quite a bit, it started at his bottom & is now working its way up to his head :mad:

I will have to check his under-coat like souffle suggests - no idea what that is!
