I am still learning, too! I wanted to verify because I have never really seen many dilutes or platinums before and they really throw me off... Dilute/platinum is so weird. And online there are not many good pictures of the different dilute/platinum colors. I don't think he looks like a dilute normal based off of the hams on AAA Hamstery's website (look here (http://www.aaahamsters.org/Platinums.html)) but then again it looks like the color really varies... Because the platinum opal on the bottom right looks exactly like this boy. But then there is another platinum opal two rows down from the top that doesn't look like him (too much color on the back). This boy is almost all white, with darker fur around his ears and head, a slight dorsal stripe (not a full one), and SOME around his butt.

AAA Hamstery says:

"Platinums can range from mostly colored with very few white hairs to mostly white with very few colored hairs. In the extreme, a Dilute Platinum is an entirely white hamster."

Based on that statement, I don't think he's a dilute. He's platinum. If he was a dilute, I think he'd be a BEW, which he is not.

But then again... I also read this by AAA Hamstery:

"The dilute platinum is believed to be the combination of the platinum gene and the dilute gene. The platinum gene is a dominant, homozygous lethal gene and is discussed on the platinum page. The dilute gene is one of the least understood of the Campbells genes. It has not yet even been documented as a gene or given a genetic symbol, but it is believe to be a recessive gene."

Ugh, it's so weird!!!

I'll get some better pictures soon!

Ha ha glad I am not the only one getting confused by the plat/dilute thing.
Thats the site I normally pop on to have a read up on things.

Its so difficult to see things correctly in photos, in person is much better to see :)

after having a look on the website I would say the closest match would be opal plat
did you get any bews in the little? or were they all plats?
