My gorgeous girl was 5 yesterday (can't believe how quick time flies).

Opening her present (both my dogs love doing this, and it's so cute to watch:)):

Cards and her prezzie - a glitter mirror ball kit! Yes it's a strange choice for a dog present, but she LOVES watching light reflect off the walls and it revolves so she can occupy herself with it whilst I'm busy:mad: and I don't have to stand trying to get the sunlight to bounce off a DVD for her!:

She also got a bike run around a lake that hires bikes out for people, as she loves running by a bike and water, so I thought a bike ride around a lake was ideal:

Meg says big thank you's for all the lovely comments and well wishes!:p

Lougarry the cake is homemade. I make their cakes myself every year, and try and do something slightly different each time for them.

For this one its:

2 full bowls of dry dog kibble totally soaked with boiling water to soften it and make it mashable. Once the first lot has sunk in, I soak it in another lot, but this time I use chicken Bisto to make it more 'special'. By the time this gravy has sunk in the food should be really really mushy. Mix it all up and put it in a large bowl to mould the cake shape, firmly patting it down a bit at a time to help it really hold together well. Continue to the top of the bowl, smooth it over on the top, cover in kitchen foil and put in the fridge for the night. The 2 bowls of dry kibble looks a lot, but it goes down a lot when mushed up so you need it to get one cake from.

Do the topping the following day. This topping is 3/4 of a large tub of plain organic yogurt mixed with about 6 - 7 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter to thicken it up and help it spread better. Only thing with this is it goes a rather horrible shade of brown:mad:, so I put pink food coloring in it (you just have to keep adding it until it goes the right shade). The colorant I used is Morrisons own which says all that's in it is 'beetroot red and water' so it should be safe and ok just as a one off like this. Cover the top and sides of the cake completely with the mix. The white stuff is plain cottage cheese which I simply stuck on bit by bit all around the edge and sides to resemble piped icing/dream whip. Do all around the edge, then on the sides do a 12,3,6,9 line and one inbetween these seems to give a nice even finish. Add any available dog cookies wherever you want and put it back in the fridge for another night.

I give it to them on it's own, without having had their normal dinner first, and not too much as it's quite rich and filling being made with so much dog food! The mould I used was one of those large brown china dog bowls and this will make a cake big enough for 2 dogs for 2-3 days, or 1 dog for 3-5 days depending on the size of the dog/s.

Happy 5th birthday! What a beautiful dog - border collies are great, so intelligent. And what a fabulous present, I hope she continues to enjoy her glitter ball.
