I remember reading in a thread about someones syrian who enjoed rolling in their sand bath but cnat for the life of me remember who's it was or where!
So i though i would start a new one and ask if any of your syrians use their sand bath for its purpose or use it for the loo?

I ask because i have recently put some sand in Maxs potty and he absolutely loves rolling around in his sand, its the funniest, cutest thing! I know dwarfies do it but to see Max do it is funny as hes so big!! He doesnt use it as a potty by the way, otherwise he would be rolling around in his own pee  He is still insisiting on peeing outside the potty

I will try and get a photo of him rolling in his sand!

Oh... just came to me, think it might have been Catjas Algy in the sand bath :?:

My Syrian rolls in his sand bath! Not as much as the dwarfs do but still quite a lot!

My Syrians don't use them as baths as much as the dwarf species do but the girls do like them more than boys and use them for their intended purpose - ie to collect poops and pees :-)

:) Is it o.k to provide a dust bath for a long haired ham?

Hamsters should never had a dust bath because it's bad for their respiritory system. A sand bath is fine for long haired hamsters though I think  Well, my Bobby is long haired and has one!

My Houdini loved his sand bath.

He rolled in it:

Dug in it:

Those photos are so funny. I think the bird-bath is a really good idea.

Very cute pictures! :D

I think it's down to the individual hamster - some of mine have used sand baths, some even for cleaning.

However, with equal frequency, it's a potty; a source of nest material; or an unused oddity!

The dwarves are a lot more appreciative of it, but I wouldn't say no for a syrian - they'll make of it what they will :)

Aww bless Houdini so cute bless him I love the idea of the bird bath being used.

Ours have pottys which they use for baths and pottys.

When I said dust I meant chinchilla sand

i half fill a empty rubber glove box with sand and hide nuts in it, Harry loved it.
