There is a rescue between Portsmouth and Southampton called Scritches Rat and Rodent Rescue that currently has a Syrian hamster.

there's a Syrian breeder in Torquay and a dwarf and a Syrian breeder in Hampshire.

The British Hamster Association is no longer active. You could try contacting the Southern Hamster Club secretary as she will know of any breeders in your area. There is a show in Dawlish each year where hamsters are sold, though it has already happened for 2012. There are Syrian breeders in Dorset and Hampshire that I know of too.
