I want to add a platform for Tre in his zoozone so I can put stuff on it. Do you know where I can buy one that will fit in there? Something like the Trixie shelter and step but smaller

If not I will have to make it, so anybody made platforms for their zoozones that they could show me?

Thanks :)

I asked a similar question recently regarding a shelf for inside a Gabber Rex so my chinese girlie could have a level she could climb up to and peer out of the perspex! Sadly though, there only seems to be those Trixie guinea pig hides and they are too big. I`ve bought a small wooden Trixie LUKA hut for my little one as it has a flat roof, but it`s probably going to be too small to be much use, but it should give her something to use as a vantage point until I can find something better.

Someone else on here (can't remember who) got the trixie shelter and just sanded the legs down a bit to fit better. It's an idea...

Here's the shelter Oscar has in his Imac Bingo, I got my Dad to saw 2 inches off the legs so Oscar could easily access it. :)

This is it ^

Or this one with steps ^

Not sure if by too big, you meant wide or tall?

I quite like this shelter but I`m not sure how I would fit it into the space I have planned for it. I would definately need to saw the stilts down! Wish they did one that was just a bit smaller though (narrower) as the actual legs can be made shorter.

I made one quite easily: (I actually stole the idea from someone here, but I can't remember who  )

(Sorry the pics aren't great, I don't have my pc with me and I don't have any decent pics on photobucket, I'll post a clearer one when I go back home)

It's basically just a cardboard box lid. I then bought a thick dowel stick and sawed it into 4 17cm (I think) pieces. I sanded them down so that the ends are even. I made holes in the lid where the screws were to go and I made screw holes in the sticks. Then I cut 2 pieces of corrugated cardboard (from packing boxes) the size of the box lid and put them in to create some stability and thickness as the top of the lid wasn't that thick. Finally I screwed in the sticks/legs. It's great because it can have a lot of substrate in it (the trixie shelter can't because it doesn't have 'walls') and it was very cheap, the only cost was of the stick. (And the screws I guess). You can also choose the length and thickness of the legs and attach things to the side (the water bottle is attached to the side of Wiggles's platform). The stairs are jenga blocks though there are a whole bunch of things you can use for stairs (ladders as well).

My hubby made one for our chinese hamster's bin cage and it is now in Fred's Zoozone 2. All it is is a piece of plasticoated wood with 4 pieces of dowel screwed in for legs. It's shaped because it needed to fit the shape of the bin cage.

Lots of great platforms going on here, I'm spolied for choice :D

The trixie shelter is growing on me. I can easily saw the legs down and attach a woodstick ladder (I've got millions of the things!)

I like Jens idea too with the cardboard and filling it with shavings, but then I face the possibility of it starting to become damp with urine, and my robos have quite an odour lol

Plasticote looks easy to clean and I can get a pink one to match the colour of his cage :)

It won't hurt him if he decides to chew it? He loves destroying his toys
And does it crack easily when drilling holes? I haven't worked with plasticote before so excuse my noobishness

Off topic, but is your Zoozone not meshed? :-?

True if your hams don't strictly stick to their pee corner anything cardboard/unprotected wood would be a problem...

Hubby made our platform before Plasticoating it and didn't have any problems at all. And yes, you can have it any colour you choose, or even multi-coloured!

No our Zoozone isn't meshed but not only would Fred not even think about trying to escape, or want to as he doesn't seem at all interested in wanting to be out of his cage - and I'm not even sure he would fit through the gaps as he is a big hammy! - we do put the meshed lid of the bin cage over the top of the Zoozone so he couldn't get out even if he did try!! I've just bought him an Alexander so he's not going to be in this for much longer anyway!

It is a Fuzzbutt's hammock and they are great, very well made!! Fred seems to like it and doesn't chew it, it's great as it gives him somewhere else to sit. I keep meaning to get one for Hugo but haven't gotten round to it yet! I did buy a fleece house - from somewhere else - and 2 fleece little beds for my previous hamsters but these were chewed so I had to take them out.
