SO because I hate rotastak as it has zero space I decided to make a bin cage as an extension onto the rotastak. I made it using the 45 litre Samla ikea plastic bin and wire mesh from my local DIY store. Instead of using a drill to make the holes etc I used a soldering iron to melt the plastic, this proved to be very time consuming and so making the bin took two hours. Here's how it turned out.. (sorry for big pics)

I saw the 130l :O Massive smokey is VERY lucky!! unfortuntley 130l wouldn't fit in the small space I have to work with so I get the 45l and as there weren't any in stock I had to get one that was on display so was a bit dusty :( But ah well still works perfectly :D Simon is still exploring :P

Looks good :) when I had a rotastak that I attached to a bin cage, we used the metal rings (that go over the end of the tubes), heated them up on the hob and then used it to melt a perfect sized hole in the plastic. I guess it depends on how thick the plastic is though.

I would have done that if my mum had let me but she thought I would ruin her gas rings? lol. I measured the height the tubs would be coming across at and then drew around the tube onto the box and soldered the hole out, took a while to get the right size but I managed to do it after a lot of plastic fumes :S

Ours were electric, not gas hobs. Hope you're ok after those fumes! hopefully you were in a well ventilated room! :)

Yeah I'm fine I put a mask in front of my face and did it outside :)

Very good work :)
He must be enjoying all the winding tubes but still space to stretch his legs!

He really loves the winding tube, he doesn't have to go in it but he prefers it over walking through the cages!

How was your soldering iron after melting plastic with it? I was thinking of doing something similar but I don't want to wreck my iron!

It was fine, if when you finish doing the soldering there is still some plastic on the tip then just point it downwards to the ground and it will drip off.

Cool, thanks! Your bin cage looks great by the way, very neatly done ^_^
