I enjoy going to shows and of course its nice to win but I got to thinking after one show and wrote this poem. Some of you may have read it in the NHC journal but I know lots of you don't get that so here it is.

Best in Show

I took my hamster to a show,
He did not do well at all,
Those great big hammies on the bench,
Made him look rather small!
So I took him home with me that night,
And placed him on the table,
I’m going to judge him now for you,
The best that I am able.

Colour – pale soft cream like vanilla fudge or the edges of clouds at sunset, not harsh orange like angry thunderclouds, yes, colour 30,
Fur – soft as velvet, the sort of fur that comforts at the rub on a tiny cheek or brings down the highest temperature..mmmm..fur 25
Type – sleek and lithe, slow and patient, the type who would never bite. The type who is always alert, who comes out when called and cheers up a miserable day – Type 25
Size – the perfect size for little hands to hold, to slip through curled fingers, to sit neat and washing in a mesmerised palm..size 10
Condition – athletic, bright and bouncy always acrobating around and all this at perhaps 80 in people years…Condition definitely 10
Eyes and ears – my love your glorification, eyes jet black pearls, liquid with understanding you hold the world in those eyes. Ears like a friendly teddy bear! No doubt there, and so 5.

So there it is, we have it now,
What do those judges know?
For in the great big competition of LOVE
My hamster is BEST IN SHOW!
