Jian - means strong and healthy (a good luck kind of thing)
Peng song - means fluffy
Tian - means sweet
Shi (pronounced shu) - means squeak

He did look like he was paying attention when I told him about his new mummy :lol: They're all beautiful names. I'm afraid I can only name hamsters when I get my hands on them.

His brothers are called Bacardi (that's my one ;) ) and Yuri. His half siblings - Luna, Chi, Lillith, Red Lotus (all female) and Kimble (male). So anything goes really!

Although not chinese but originating from america, meaning 'The loon'

I used to have a Chinese hammy boy, he was wonderful and silly and adorable and perfect. I worked in a lab with two Chinese gentlemen, and I asked them to help me pick out a fitting name for him. We finally settled on Cāngshǔ (I think they pronounced it chan-shoh, but I'm not 100% sure), meaning "hamster" in their dialect.

I haven't shown him, but there's no reason not to. He's a sweet little ham and would manage well with the experience (his brothers from the same litter have). For the main show, you would have to be at the show from 10am til about 5pm.

What the judges are looking for is in the standard (in your NHC handbook if you're a member or on the NHC website NHC Exhibition Standards - Dwarf (Any Other Species) - National Hamster Council (http://www.hamsters-uk.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=79&Itemid=63#Chinese)). When looking at a hamster to see if it would be good for showing I use the judging categories and standard. Different judges interpret the standard differently and so may be mroe or less likely to score him well!

Colour - unfortunately very few chinese hamsters have the rich deep brown that the standard requires and are more grey-brown. This lad is pale, but may get slightly darker with age.
Type - He has the slender build required and the equilateral triangle of the head. His nose may be a bit pointy for some judges (but makes him look extra cute - which is why I have to put on my objective hat when picking keepers!)
Fur - I like his fur, and this can be helped by regular sandbaths before the show.
Size - A bit small, but he is still in young stock. He'll grow, if he's anything like his dad (and his mum's not tiny)
Condition - that's up to you!
Eyes and Ears - his ears are a bit large. I hope he'll grow into them :lol:

I hope this helps you, and anyone else that's interested, know what judges look for in a show ham. The categories are the same for the other hamster species and standards for them are on the NHC website (WW/C hybrids can't be shown, and would be disqualified).

Chinese hams seem to live forever its crazy - my 2 boys are 2 yrs and nearly 2 months and they are still as active as the day i got them when they were 8 weeks old!

Mmm I noticed his um . . . 'package', it gives them a funny shape bottom wise doesnt it! - like a sort of bum extension!! Its usual with chinese though isnt it? I have heard about ones so large that they drag them along the floor :shock:

Aww How weird is that?! I met my mums cousins daughter for the first time last week and she has a hamster, so we had something in common straight away - he is called Mr Jingles which I thought was sos cute. Apprantly its the name of the mouse in the film Greem Mile but I havent seen it myself. Its a cute name!!

Only 2 days to go :mrgreen: I'm so excited!
Its a training day at school tommorow so i have the day off so i can set up ther gabber for him.
My room still isn't decorated or orgainzed and my mum says it won't be organized till saturday (while i'm at the show)
So i'm quite peeved and stressed about it cause it is impossible to navigate my room at the moment, all the hamster stuff is all over the place and hard to find and loads of stuff is in the bathroom so there is hardly any room to clean out cages :/
Mum said it'd all be finished before he came home but shes left it so last minute...ahhh brain overload :shock:
