I had a friend who i sold one of my hamsters to a week ago and tonight i came over to hang out withy my friend and we took out the hamster named hope to play with her. She was in a 30 gallon tank with a silent wheel, oasis water bottle, an igloo, tunnels, and her food bowl and timothy hay. So we noticed when we went to pick her up that she was squeeling and running away from us... Upon closer inspection she was dragging her hind legs. She died later that night after a ton of love and worried owners who were up with her. I am curious as to why she had no back leg function does anyone knoe? Plz help

thanks

That`s very sad. I can`t honestly offer an explanation really. Everything in her tank sounds fine. I can only think she could have been dropped at some point, or fell when out playing with the owner? Rodents don`t usually get paralysis in the hind legs until they are old, especially rats.

She`s either had some trauma to her spine, or something to have cause degeneration or nerve damage. The squeaking makes me think trauma. :(

What species of hamster was she?

Oh what a pity about little Hope. RIP little one.
I would agree with Racinghamster it sounds like some sort of spinal damage. Either a drop or an awkward fall in the cage. Maybe she just climbed on something and fell badly. It is unfortunate but happens sometimes. Check the silent spinner as I have read reports of them coming loose and hamsters legs becoming trapped. There is always the possibility of an insect sting or spider bite which can be fatal to a small animal.
I hope they will not lose heart and will maybe offer a home to one of the other babies who do not have one yet
