Why vbulletin?
When I joined the forum I was and still am a little surprised to see any forum still using V-bulletin, its so old and ugly its unreal. I wondered why you are not using Xenforo, is it just because you do not have many regular posters and whatnot?
You seem to have a decent amount of content and media, surely Xenforo would handle that better?

Re: Why vbulletin?
I actually happen to like the forum’s appearance. I think it is very nice and professional looking. Just looked up xenforo and it doesn’t look attractive to me - so boring, colourless, cheap looking and yes, ugly. But then maybe the images on google were not good examples. And that is only my opinion.
You are right though, that we have had some trouble with technical difficulties and glitches. I am no technology expert, so perhaps xenforo would help with that. I’d be sad to lose the forum’s current look, however.

Re: Why vbulletin?
I too actually like vbulletin! I like the look, the fact that mobile and computer edition are the same, and just how smooth and easy to navigate it is. I'm not tech savvy so the simpler, the better! I also wouldn't say we don't have regular posters, if you go to the "statistics" tab, you can see many poster will post an average of 5-20 posts per day! I may be the exception but I love the design of this forum more than any I've ever used

I too love the forum the way it is, I find it easy to work, like Drago says the simpler the better.

Re: Why vbulletin?
I don't feel a need to change the forum. I like the fact there's no ads, not too many colours, making more readable for my older eyes. The value of it is the high quality content posters write. And the skill of the moderators.
What is the cost of a new software package and who would pay it?

Re: Why vbulletin?
I'm with the others, I much prefer the forum the way it is, a bit old maybe but not ugly at all imo & very user friendly, I'm a firm believer in the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

Re: Why vbulletin?
Hmm you wouldn't have to sacrifice the look much however posting photos is way easier on xenforo and the multimedia options are a lot slicker.
Just being around a number of other forums I was quite shocked Vbulletin was even still used.
I won't use this forum enough to really be bothered either way but I was just thinking about new members and the future really. The forum is an ok resource however members wish to have it and I hope it continues, just Vbulletin is weird is all. I've had to relearn the old ways then realised I couldn't be doing with uploading media

Re: Why vbulletin?
The forum is paid for by Admin and all the moderators do the work on a voluntary basis. Nobody gets paid and we do it for the love of hamsters and to help members share knowledge and experiences.
I don't think you have given it a chance Goddard to try and fit in with the system in place so maybe that would be something you would think about even though it may require a little more effort but as you say you won't be around much.
I am on quite a few forums that use V bulletin actually!
Admin and site owner is Fluffy and he can be contacted by PM should you have any major problems.

I think this forum is a wonderful resource and it would be nice of you to give it a chance as Souffle says.
There are pleny of instructions here on how to upload photos and everyone would be happy to help if you have any issues.
