I personally think a thanks button would receive a much better reception. As said above, it is much more effective to agree or thank a member than rating a whole thread. In my first post I made clear that sometimes I find it ignorant that I don't feel able to thank a member properly for either contributing to one of my own threads or saying something that I agree with. I don't see why others wouldn't use it in the same way.

Yes we understand that but are trying to compare the usage of the rate thread button (ie barely ever used ) to the possible use of an individual 'like' button for posts (ie would everyone use it loads at first then completely forget it!)
Lavochain I wasn't saying it would replace the rate just wanted to know it anyone noticed it
How would individuals use it? Would you use it to show appreciation for a really helpful post or would you go round clicking like on every cute hamster pic instead of making a comment. We really want to know so we can do the right thing for the forum.
Do you think people would go click happy making 'likes' rather worthless?

I'd personally use it as a way of agreeing with a post or liking a photo or comment that had been made

I can only say how it is used on other forums that I am on. It does not decrease the amount of genuinely informative or interesting posts, however it does reduce the 'I agree with blah blah' posts which boost boards in spite of many that may need assistance. There are 'likes' on photos but this is a good thing, again there doesn't in my opinion need to be 27 posts on a board all pertaining to how cute a hamster is. It doesn't in my opinion stop people from chatting or sharing valid points, a lot of people 'thank' and comment in some cases.

Obviously it has to be something that is right for a forum, and that is ultimately the mods decision.

Thank you Any other comments appreciated. We do take any changes very seriously and obviously there would be a bit of work involved for Fluffy in making time to implement changes etc.
Myself I find myself a bit 'click happy' on facebook for instance and I tend to 'like' hundreds of photos but then when I post a photo and people click like I rush to see if they have commented and then feel a bit disappointed when they haven't said anything. LOL Maybe that's me being a big baby but I like a comment myself so now I do try and comment. Also if the 'like's' don't show up on the new posts board because they are not posts someone may have a picture with no comments at all and a lot of likes and feel and bit let down about it maybe? I'm just trying to think from everyone's viewpoint and see how they would feel. I'd personally always comment if I had a response to make but I appreciate everyone doesn't have time for that (and neither should I really!)

I'm abit like you on this !! I enjoy the interactions between people and/or between them and myself. I'm of the social type ! So I know I would take a sec or 2 to leave a message, but maybe others wouldn't... I guess it's up to each person...

I did know the star rate the thread option is there, I have never used it because although I like the thread title & some posts withing the thread I usually don't like all of them. I feel if I rate the whole thread I am rating all the posts within the the thread I.E give it all stars means I like every post a lot when in fact I don't & if I give it less stars then the posts I really do like get less stars than they deserve. I also think it could be a little hurtful to the original poster of the thread if they get low stars because some not so nice posts have been made withing the thread.

I would like to see the rate the thread gone as no one uses it anyway & for the above reasons.

With the like button I would click like if I liked what the person had said I.E the content of the post as being helpful, informative, as well as how the person said it being kind & respectful of other peoples feelings just like the lovely reply's given yesterday to someone asking for help with their cage. I would also click like to all the ham pictures but I would personally always leave a comment it could be a short one like Gorgeous or a longer one saying what I find gorgeous about the picture.

Hope this helps

xxx

I don't think it would be worthless - generally people 'like' if something is cute, or if they agree with it. I think its encouraging if a piece of advice has a lot of likes.
personally i think it could only benefit the forum!

I knew about the rate a thread thing but tbh I think its totally pointless apart from for something like the show us your cages thread where almost every post is awesome. A like button would allow me to like things I agree with especially in threads where there are posts I do not agree with, not in a bullying type ganging up type way but say a cage size argument liking a post where somebody speaks sense or shows a good example of what can be done with a space of x size or with x budget etc.
