I never heard of this before. what type of bedding are you using? no bedding should be able to grow mushrooms if it gets wet, and the bedding shouldn't be getting wet in the first place.
please use a proper bedding made for hamsters and make sure that you clean your hamster's bedding way before it would have a chance to grow anything, let alone mushrooms.
using sand wont help the problem, sand doesnt absorb and if you're not careful you will be getting maggots in your hamster cage (if there aren't one already) which can be deadly to your hamster
