Make sure he has a big enough cage! At least a 30 gallon aquarium sized cage. For wheels mine loved his wodent wheel! My dwarfs like the silent spinner. For a Syrian you will want a much bigger one. 12 inch. They also like to have hiding spots around the cage. If you use paper tubes put a slit all the way up the side in case he gets stuck. Have some sticks for him to gnaw on and a small (think stovetop stuffing) box with a small hole on one end is fun for them too.
