That's true. A vet will insist on examining a hamster first but after that they are willing to talk over the phone as a follow up. I think it's a policy they have to adhere to which was lifted during the pandemic and then re instated.
I would go to a different vet practice. One that has the facility to do an ultrasound scan on hamsters. My vets do and they are not an exotics vetenary surgery.
I think that what Serendipity's vet meant was, regardless of whether a tumor is malignant or not, it is still a mass that will press against vital organs and possibly affect their function.
If it is a fluid filled cyst for example and not a tumor then maybe it could be drained.
