That's an idea. A second hand Alaska would be quite cheap. I wouldn't worry to much about the top opening on the Grosvenor. As you say, front doors could be tricky if the cage was on the floor, and you can also just lower a tube in through the top for the hamster to walk into. They will probably get used to it. I use a rat tube for our hamster to walk into and he just hops in. And the height is not too high (especially with substrate in) so it's not like it would be a great height from the hamster coming from above. And it's the whole top that opens - which is what I meant about being able to come in at an angle from the top rather than straight down like a claw!

It would certainly be easy for getting large items in and out of the cage with that big top opening!

I think the 100cm Grosvenor would be a good option! It comes with a shelf which really helps. Less fiddly and less expensive for extras than the Plaza.
