It's a great piece isn't it? I always found it fascinating. I guess long haired hamsters might look bigger because they have more fur!

In terms of size - Syrians can vary hugely in size - from a whopping 300g for a large Syrian, down to 100g for a small one. This is partly genetics (as with people - tall and short people) and partly due to bad factory breeding and environment (those hamsters tend to come out smaller). But it's not always down to breeding.
