I don't think it's a case of comfort because Rodney lives downstairs and the other three Syrians are upstairs in the same room.
I think it's of a more territorial nature like "a hamster has been here before me but i'm here now so i'm scenting over his scent" kind of scenario. I could be wrong of course.
I suppose it's a natural behaviour they have in the wilds and it comes through here because i have multiple hamsters.
Rodney is left out just now because he's isolating so i want to stage it for him. Clive has been trying to jump the stair barrier for ages anyway so will welcome the chance to explore.
