Even aside from scientific research, there's more than enough evidence gathered over time to prove that housing any hamster species socially is a very bad idea and can lead to absolutely heartbreaking outcomes. Falling out is essentially inevitable with socially housed hamsters but even if it doesn't end in death of any hamsters involved it still puts them under completely avoidable harmful stress the entire time. It just isn't remotely worth it, since the only ones benefitting are humans while the hamsters ultimately suffer even if the suffering isn't obvious since hamsters can hide things very well.

Other animals that are naturally social benefit from social housing, though with some species there are extra precautions to be taken to make things safe. Rats for example are extremely social and really need to be housed together which is basically the opposite of hamsters!
