when it comes to cleaning, if I know where Comet my robo is sleeping I can manage to do most of his cage without disturbing him, but if he's out and about or comes up to investigate I just put him either in a travel carrier with a hide some food and some cucumber for hydration or just use a small storage bin and set him up there with a couple of hides, maybe his wheel and food and water source. This tends to be more when I do a big clean, for example I had a horrible stench once and couldn't work out where it was coming from and had to take everything out. Turns out he had started to pee in a cork log, so I just had to saw the bottom of that off and learnt my lesson not to submerge anything into the bedding that had a porous bottom.
