My 2 year old dwarf hamster has started making this quiet huffing sound for the past month or so that almost sounds like a whirring sound. It sounds like a series of sniffs but very close together. It gets louder when she’s out of her cage or she’s foraging for food so I’ve just thought that maybe she is curious about her environment or just grumpy but I am a bit worried and thought it’d be best to ask whether a vet visit would be a good idea. I cant manage to catch the sound on video but it sounds like if you scrunch up your nose and blow air out rapidly and repeatedly. She looks and seems fine physically other than some signs of old age (slightly clumsier and hair going grey) so I’m not sure if it’s anything to worry about.
