I remember going through all this with our first syrian who was large and chunky. The 27cm wodent wheel was only 7cm deep (I think the Trixie is the same?) - apart from the fact he needed a bigger wheel, I worried he might rub his fur off at the sides running in a narrower wheel. This was before the silent runner came out and I'd had two wood trixie wheels break, so I bought the 12" wobust wheel - which was very very deep! He loved it but it was really really bulky - similar to the green silent runner I think.
