All hamsters here have a bottle and a bowl. I prefer to have two water sources in case one fails.

I place a pebble or glass marble (too big to pouch) inside the Robo's bowls so they can't fall in.

They use both but have preferences. Haven't met a hamster yet who is afraid of a water bowl.
