That's alright then. Hamsters react so differently to changes. Are you looking to buy a new or second hand cage? A large Ikea Samla is only £15 and it doesn't take much to mesh the lid. Wilko used to sell a piece of mesh for £4 but not sure if they still do. Also, the Samla has wheels and you could use it for storage after your holiday.
