I think the smallest you could get away with is a Hamster Heaven but personally, i don't think it's a good idea to move him into another cage.

Oh sorry, i think i misunderstood though. You need a portable cage to take him to your relative? I first thought your relative was going to come to your house and spot cleaning in the large DIY cage was too fiddly.

Still, i'd go for a Hamster Heaven or Alaska. They are often available on Gumtree for £20-£30.
