Oh I don't really think it's neurological - I was just a bit in tune to that after my experience with Pickle and his head swelling. It's a possibility but not likely - it's just reminding me - like bad memories!

I think it's more likely to be previous experiences but they do all have different personalities and genetic traits as well.

Our first hamster, Charlie, was a bit feral at first. It took 2 months to tame him in the bath tub. But he never bit. He did have cage rage at first and would run at you (his cage was too small so sussed that!). Raffy has a big cage and big playpen so it's not that. He just switches from sweet to bad tempered if your hand is anywhere near picking him up.

It's probably time and trust - unless his trust issues are too ingrained now.
