Default Re: Hamster cage suggestions please?

The likelihood of robos and all dwarf hamsters for that matter is essentially inevitable and even if they don't have an obvious falling out or cause serious injury to one another, the stress is still very harmful to them and they really do so much better being kept strictly alone - the sooner the better!

Did the cage with 1cm bars have any larger gaps in the corners for example? This can actually be a common design flaw with many cages actually. 1cm bars wouldn't allow a fully grown Syrian to escape, even the smaller ones, so I'd strongly lean towards something else leading to the escape instead. The standard 1/2 inch bar spacing used in the US for all hamster species is actually 1.27cm and many people have reliably & successfully kept even the tiniest robos in that.

ETA there are also other things that can compromise the security of a cage other than corner gaps, for example many cages have plastic tubing that can potentially get disconnected from the cage and lead to a very easy escape route. While this may not be the case for the OP it is still really good for hamster owners in general to keep in mind.
