Default Re: Surprise Birth - Need help!

Hi. This sounds like a distressing situation to find yourself in. That's good you've separated your female. They mustn't live together with males because they can become pregnant again very quickly, which isn't good for the female. Are all your hamsters Syrians or just Haiame? Syrians are solitary and shouldn't live or come into contact with other hamsters as they can fight very badly so Haiame needs to be on his own all the time. If your other males are dwarf hamsters and fight they should also be separated so it's a good idea to have spare cages in case, if they are all Syrians they really must all live on their own.

With the pups, it's a bit distressing to hear but unfortunately it can be quite common for mum hamster to eat her pups, especially if she feels stressed which sounds like is what's happening for her. I've not personally had experience of my hamsters having a litter so I can't really help further on that one but I do remember from other threads on here that giving mum peace & quiet seems to be the best thing. Do the pups still have their eyes shut? That will give some indication of age and if they can be helped.

You've had a lot to absorb quite quickly but you obvious care for your hammies because the first thing you've done is look for help. Welcome to HC.
