Hello! I'm new to taking care of hamsters. I was showing my cousin my 4 hamsters a few hours earlier when I noticed that one of the males was carrying something with his mouth. I looked closer and realized that it was a pup. I immediately put the males in a different cage however, the two pups were already taken from their mother Sekiko.
FYI I only have two cages and one is occupied by my Syrian named Haiame because he often bullies whoever he's with. So the other cage houses Sekiko (F), Makkura (M), and Shirao (M).
I didn't notice that Sekiko was pregnant because her belly didn't change much and she gave birth to only two which I learned was uncommon. At first, she tried to eat the two pups and this happened 2 times. I managed to stop it and from then on, she hasn't tried it again. However,
she pays no attention and doesn't tend to the pups. I'm worried that they might not survive or develop properly. Do you have any idea on how I can make her tend to them? In worst case scenario, I plan on using syringe to feed them (need to research on it more).
Note:
- I gave her boiled egg whites and cheese since I learned she needs protein.
- I took the wheel away because she kept on running and ignoring the pups.
