Betty, I don't know if you already have your robo, but a lot of them don't like to come out for free roam/out of cage time. It does all depend on the robo. 450sq inches is classed as the very bare minimum and I know people often quote a 40 gallon tank as the bare minimum. Just because something is classed as bare minimum, it doesn't always mean this is what is best for an animal so that it can thrive.
These days it is thought (through research and observing hamster behaviour) that something like 100x50 cm is the minimum for a hamster to thrive. It is also often quoted that 80x 50cm is a good size to start with for robos. Personally, I wouldn't go smaller than this.
Is there anyway you can change your room around to make more space for a larger sized cage?
