With the wood 28cm trixie one I removed the screws in the base and the base (not easy - took a saw). The screw holes are still there in the upright stand. I then used to large flat washers and the existing screws and screwed through the top of the bars into the wheel upright stand with the existing holes. That way the wheel is securely upside down and can be set a bit further back.
