I'd put a big heap of torn into strips plain white (unscented) toilet paper near his house so he can make a nest.
He's probably upset about the cage clean and they do sometimes sleep in odd places when unsettled. I'd give him some treats and plenty of paperbased bedding so he can burrow if he wants to.

Hi! That's the weirdest thing. He already built his own nest and he has toilet paper and hay. He slept there too, but then he moved behind the house. He has never done this before.
I think he's upset with me, yeah…
