The vet may be helpful over payment and allow you to pay late or even in small instalments if you explain. My concern would be that he won’t be able to eat properly.
Good that he stopped bar chewing. Sometimes though it’s to try and communicate with you to tell you something is wrong - eg water bottle not working. Or some access to a shelf fallen down so he can’t reach food and water. Just check his water bottle is working ok and he can reach good and water ok.
