Default Re: Rescue Rousey - the hammy I saved from neglect

Sadly, Rescue Rousey passed away this afternoon.

I have an older hammy named Orange, and she's aging so I check on her every morning to make sure she's still alive. When I was done checking on her, I noticed a decent amount of blood all over Rescue Rousey's bedding. I thought she was sleeping, but it turns out she was in some weird V shape and convulsing.

I picked her up and noticed something hanging out of her butt. I work at a vet, and mine was closed today, so one of the doctor's told me to come to their house. They said it was a prolapsed rectum and ALL of it had come out, about an inch to an inch and a half worth. It also looked like she had been chewing on it.

She was already pretty lifeless so we made the hard decision to humanely euthanize her. Even though we only had her a little less than 3 months, she was still a part of our family. My husband is distraught over it, more than I am now that I'm alittle immune to the process working at a vet.

She will be missed. I kept her water bottle as a reminder of her friendship.
