Default Re: Taming is a nightmare!

I think that people have different taming methods and its a matter of finding what works for you and your hamster.

I tame outside of a hamster 's cage but don't take them out of their cage to put them straight into another cage like a bin cage. I place them on my lap without touching them at first but slowly build up to that. To be able to do that one needs a big enough, hamster safe area like part of a hall, a playpen large enough to sit in it or a bath tub, all with a blanket down and a hide and toys to explore.

I let the hamster walk and sniff around on me for a few session starting off with very short sessions and gradually move on to stroking and later pick up exercises.
I give the hamsters a break inbetween sessions and start off with taming two or three times a week.

It works for me and i feel comfortable and confident with this method but a lot depends on the individual hamster and what people feel comfortable with.
