i'v seen people do things similar to what I think you are trying to do.
I have seen people put a box at one end and fill it, so it's no different to that, you could always cut an open door in it at the bottom as otherwise I'm not sure how he would get from one side to the other or is that what the bridge at the top is for?

Just a word re tea bag bedding, I know lots of people use it, but there is a high chance it contains plastic.Unless where you are buying it from can guarantee they get it from a company that does not use plastic in their tea bags (not heard of one yet that does this) I personally feel it is better to use something else that you know is 100% safe, plus you can then compost it, which you can;t if it contains plastic.
