Question Upgraded detolf; add more substrate (need an opinion on my idea!)

So, Remy has finally upgraded to a detolf as of Thursday and he has settled in really well so far (been leaving him be and will be for about another 3 days) but still need to make quite a few changes before it's fully perfect.

Although no "proper" lid as of yet, I'm using the three glass shelves on the bit I want to have deep substrate (which I need to add) and the old meshed lid from his old bin box as a temporary fix until I can find and grab my hands on wood and mesh to make the raised lid that opens from the front (my next hunt on any market places which I've been doing for the last 2 weeks).

So yes, not 100% perfect but good ** for now ** ... anyway.

As stated, I wanted to add deep substrate, and of course his level of substrate is no where near appropriate and must be raised higher in one side, for sure! Again, I'll do this on the glass side as there's no big enough gaps for him to squeeze through and the glass is heavy so he can't push it up (will add something on top for more ease of mind).

My idea for this is, is it possible to be able to "cut off" a section so it can be raised (my concern is whether or not the UNBROKEN floor space will still be big enough).

So if I explain; where the metal bars come down where the shelves are supposed to be rested, could I use one of those to prop some safe wooden bridges or even a big thick piece of cardboard (that I actually have, came with the detolf and fits in perfectly) and rest it against the bar and fill the otherside with substrate for him to dig down into? So it's like a square part of one side with deep substrate?

Here's his enclosure:

Here's my idea (roughly drawn a line where I have my plan!):

As with the substrate; I do need to slowly transition him over to aspen or teabag bedding/clean and cosy. I'm on that already! Going out to purchase some this afternoon.
