Joining the hamster world
Hi there, hamster-types!
We recently got my step-daughter a Syrian hamster, which she named Gumball. We’ve had him for a little over a month now and he seems to be doing well.
With some patience and perseverance, he has become reasonably tame. When he wakes up, I am able to scoop him up and take him out of his cage and he will chomp away on his favorite snacks and nestle in the space between my body and arm until he’s ready to start running about and doing hamster things. He will groom himself (which I’ve read can be a sign of stress), do the stretch and yawn, and occasionally do a quiet chatter while settled in.
From the research I’ve done, I think these are good things, but I’ve read a lot of conflicting information about their body language and how to interpret it, so here I am!
Looking forward to learning more. I have kept turtles since I was a kid, but I am definitely getting sucked into the bonding and cuteness of this little guy and sharing it with the kiddo as well.
