Default Re: Savic Plaza or Heaven

I’d get the hamster heaven . The plaza is very tall and would need a full level really to make it safe. The Hamster Heaven is a good size and height for a dwarf hamster and one of the lowest hamster cages (about 36cm tall internally). But you would need to remove the tubes and penthouse (personally I’d remove the shelves as well and start with an empty cage as others have done).

If it was for a Robo I would consider a 100 cm cage but the 80 x 50 HH is good for a Russian dwarf. The lower height is important to avoid injuries from falls - even then you want a good depth of substrate snd ensure any hard or sharp items are under or on a shelf (so they can’t be landed on).

I have the Savic Mickey 2XL which is the identical cage but narrower bar spacing and no tubes and plastic stuff. Our Robo was happy in that size cage and plenty of space to fit a labyrinth house (that is definitely worth getting). I would get the HH and spend the difference on a good house and wheel. The 21cm silent runner is a great wheel fir a dwarf and the trixie or Rodipet labyrinth houses are good too. A labyrinth house would double up as a shelf and you could have a smaller corner shelf above it maybe. I use rat Sputnik in my cages too - even our little Robo had a rat Sputnik - they give good overhead cover (which helps hamsters feel secure). For access to it you’d probably need it hanging next to a shelf or a tube tied to the roof leading from a shelf. If you put bedding in them it makes an extra hidey place.

The HH is a fairly futureproof cage as suitable for most species - they can be a good starter cage for a Syrian as well and some Syrians won’t need anything bigger (most do better with a bit more space though).

I wouldn’t get the Plaza fir a dwarf hamster personally - but maybe for a Robo with a full level fitted.
