I wondered if he was a long haired. As far as I am aware you don't get a partial long haired, they either are or they aren't.
It's just females tend to have the tufty bits behind their ears and maybe a bit of bum/hip fluff, males can start off with just the bum tufts and maybe a bit of a skirt, but then like in the case of my male syrian Twinkle it can just sprout all over. I think i read it was something to do with their testosterone levels to how fluffy they get.

Thanks for that Luna, from my brief look at him he seemed longish haired.
