Default Re: Dampness smell from tank?

I asked a while ago how to get rid of a salt smell in an aquarium and rubbing the inside with bicarb then leaving it covered to get to work and then to rinse well was suggested.

I was enquiring on some else's behalf who bought a tank in the end without a smell so it hasn't been tried.

I wonder if a bottom layer of wood chips would absorb the smell then the regular substrate on top of it. I'm suggesting that because woodchips worked better than paperbased to absorb the pee smell when i had a diabetic dwarf.

The smell is probably in the sealant rather than the glass.
Do you think that your hamster is bothered by it?
