I’ve seen a lot of people putting stones in the cage often under the water bottle in the mistaken opinion that it will help keep nails trim, unless it’s a very rough stone it won’t do anything at all & if it is a rough stone may be uncomfortable for a hamster, also I think it’s dangerous to have something heavy like a stone which could move & injure a ham.
If you want things to help keep nails trim then a sand bath, rough textures like bendy bridges & cork will help a little, you can use granite slabs or tiles but these must be secure, on top of a house for example.
