They normally groom & clean themselves without needing any help from us, a sand bath does help them to keep clean & they should have that in the cage at all times.
Never wash a hamster, if something really got stuck to the fur & hadn’t been cleaned of after a day or two then just gently cleaning with damp cotton wool is enough.
