Default Re: How often should I clean my hamsters bed

You only need to clean her nest if it has been peed on. If not then its best to leave it alone.

As for her hoard. If there is any fresh food that hasn't been eaten within a day/night then i'd remove that so it won't get mouldy. Any dry food is best left alone unless it has been peed on in which case you'd need to remove it. If that happens then make sure that you replace the hoard with new hamster mix, same place and same quantity or your hamster will feel robbed and most likely pee on it to deter any human thieves.

As for spot cleaning. I only clean when it starts to pong of pee somewhere. There's no time limit, i trust my nose.
You don't have to worry about poos for a long time because they don't smell.

The bigger the cage and the deeper the substrate the fewer times you have to clean.
