I am finding prices hikes on a lot of things. I assume it’s due to supply and demand or increased costs at manufacturer level to recoup losses during lockdown. Or something like that. It pays to shop around, which I am sure you have done. But also there are alternatives which are similar but better IMHO. Fitch is the same price- just over £20 for a 10kg bag and that is a lot of substrate (works out a lot cheaper than Carefresh). It’s just like carefresh but without any dust - and it’s just paper (as opposed to cellulose). Kaytee clean and cozy is also considered better but similar - not sure how the prices are for that right now. Having said that my last bag of Kaytee C&C was dusty and I ended up not using it - and there are other people saying the same thing. I think it may have changed.

If you don’t mind getting a 10 kg bag then Fitch is good and works out much more economical. Our hamsters really like it. It’s recycled food grade paper. Only available online but includes delivery and it’s usually delivered in a couple of days.
