Seperating them is the best thing you can do. You are right. They could live together, BUT that doesn't mean they Should. In the wild they have infinite space to get away from each other however in captivity they can't so it's always best to have 1 hamster per cage. So don't try and reintroduce them.

Care wise everything is the same except food like cypher says. With your Syrians did you have a sand bath? Dwarf species LOVE them so I'd look to getting some sand if you haven't already

Now for the most important thing...can we have a photo of sugar and spice
