If you can’t figure out the cause you could still try giving him a pinch of flax seeds daily (linseed) & a drop of evening primrose oil on food, I’ve found this to work really well with hair loss & general coat & skin condition.

I already give him some flax seeds, not daily, more like every two weeks. I agree with you that I don't think it's mites or parasites, and I've read more about Cushing's disease and it seems unlikely that he has that, either. If it doesn't stop in the next few days, I'll try giving him more flax and try the evening primrose oil.
